The family of the late marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum and members of the Kenyan community have gathered in his rural village to give him his final send off.

Kiptum died together with his coach Gervais Hakizimana in a car accident. The president of Kenya, HE Dr William Samoei Ruto will lead mourners at the service.

Alfred 'Sergent' Koech is a Perth based former athlete who runs a Landson Foundation, a charity which provides opportunities for aspiring athletes through education.

Sergent told SBS Swahili about his recent interaction with the late Kiptum, whilst he was in Kenya less than 3 weeks ago.
