Viewers of The Bachelorette Australia took to social media last night to express their anger after what many viewed as a transphobic exchange went to air.

“I have a little confession to make about myself," contestant Bill said upon meeting Bachelorette Ali for the first time.

"I wasn’t actually born Bill. I was born something different. I was born...”

The show then cut to a very strategic ad break.

Upon return, viewers were informed that Bill had actually been born - wait for it - with the name David.

Then came the real kicker: cutting to an on-camera confessional, Bachelorette Ali said, "Not a woman, tick!"
Viewers were quick to remind Ali that even if Bill had been a trans man, he still wouldn't be a woman.

"Really Channel 10?" One fan tweeted.

"He's not a woman... tick? Trans men are not women."
