The classic film Finding Forrester, originally directed by Gus Van Sant and starring the late Sean Connery, is being developed for TV by NBC - and those behind the retelling have made some exciting changes.
In the 2000 classic, a gifted writer and basketball player (played by Rob Brown) receives a scholarship to a prestigious private high school where he befriends Forrester (Connery), a reclusive Scottish writer who acts as the black teen's mentor.
However, reports that in the TV adaptation, written and executive produced by TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson, the story will focus on the relationship between two gifted black writers: a 16-year-old orphan whose basketball skills earn him a place in an elite boarding school, and "a reclusive lesbian author whose career was ruined by a public scandal".

Examining “the cost of success and the price of redemption", the series will be directed by Tim Story, the first Black director to gross $1 billion at the box office, with a list of previous films including Think Like a Man, Fantastic Four and Barbershop - along with the forthcoming Tom & Jerry film.
It will be produced by Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media as Sony Pictures Television.
