Actress Amber Heard has opened up about why she decided to come out publicly as bisexual, saying she wanted to help remove social taboo.
Speaking to Italian magazine , the Aquaman star reflected on coming out, saying: "It was a period when my colleagues were increasingly demanding privacy and at the same time being bisexual was considered a taboo."
She added: "But to be silent about something means to admit underneath that the thing is wrong. But I knew it was not."
Heard said that she wanted to "offer young people someone they could relate to", pointing out that members of her generation had gone without figures in the mainstream media to reference.
"Who knows, thanks to me, maybe someone has felt less inadequate."
She continued: "It is a responsibility that I feel rooted in me. The great thing about this job is that it offers me an important platform, but I have a duty to give something back. To talk about justice, to make my roles have an impact... it's the least I can do."
Heard first came out as bisexual at GLAAD's 25th anniversary event in 2010.
