A bright orange bus emblazoned with transphobic advertising has been driving past schools in Madrid this week.
The bus is part of a campaign run by citizen group Hazte Oir (Make Yourself Heard) in opposition to the Chrysallis organisation—a group that supports transgender children.
‘Boys have penises, girls have vulvas. Don’t let them fool you. If you’re born a man, you’re a man. If you’re a woman, you will continue to be a woman,’ the side of the bus reads in Spanish.
The Hazte Oir group plan to take the bus to other Spanish cities, including Barcelona, Valencia and Pamplona in an effort to promote their book: ‘Do you know what they want to teach your child in school.'
Members of Hazte Oir say the bus is "not intended to offend anyone".
"The objective of the campaign is to denounce the impositions of the gender ideology that violates freedom of education and the fundamental right of parents to educate their children," says from the group.
Spanish citizens have widely condemned the bus and a petition on Change.org has already attracted over 100,000 signatures for the “immediate withdrawal” of the vehicle.
“The consequences of this campaign will be serious for those children who are suffering and who will only see here more reasons to feel isolated, mistaken, confused and guilty,” the petition reads.
The City Council of Madrid has promised to take “appropriate measures” stop the bus from spreading its transphobic messages around the city, according to la Vanguardia.
