Match 63
Croatia v Morocco
Croatia secured third place in the 2022 World Cup after defeating surprise packets Morocco 2-1 in Al-Rayyan.
Josko Gvardiol gave the Vatreni the perfect start seven minutes into the contest, after heading home from a well-worked set-piece routine.
That joy would be short-lived, however, with Achraf Dari restoring parity for the hosts just two minutes later from a set-piece of their own.
The early flurry of goals made for an entertaining first-half, but one that ultimately ended in Croatia’s favour as Mislav Orsic curled a beautiful effort beyond Yassine Bounou.
Morocco continued to press in search of an equaliser following the restart, though it never came – leaving Croatia to solidify another place on the podium and give captain Luka Modric a fitting World Cup send-off.
