Zwift Power Rankings - Stage 19

The weather, mud and ice deserve top spot in the Power Rankings after decimating Stage 19 of the 2019 Tour de France. Race director Christian Prudhomme also gets a mention after making the tough but correct call to stop the stage. But there's stilll a race on and we must cast our eye over the action.

It's often a tough task to tell at a glance which teams are doing well at the Tour de France, there are 22 of them going around France, each with their own objectives and strengths.

To keep an eye on how each team is progressing, Cycling Central is running the Zwift Power Rankings during the Tour de France. It's a quick guide from stage to stage of which teams are excelling and which are unlucky or faring poorly.

Rankings are calculated according to a matrix of stage results, jersey standings and a team's ability to race with panache and flair.

1. Deceuninck-Quickstep (same)

14 days in the yellow jersey. Three stage wins. Still on the podium. Skineos doesn't trump this...

Stage 8 - 3rd (Julian Alaphilippe)

2. Team Ineos (up six)

....but Egan Bernal's attack to take the yellow jersey deserves this spot because barring someone exploding off the front for the now modified 59km Stage 20, all your 2019 Tour de France belong to him.

The Colombian was also on song to take the stage win before the cancellation of the stage neutralised that aspect of the race.

Ineos must've got the memo about fully backing the right thoroughbred as Bernal took off down the road, an  emphatic champion at 22-years-old, the internecine conflict now settled.

Best Results:

Stage 2 - 2nd (TTT)
Stage 6 - 4th (Geraint Thomas)
Stage 13- 2nd (Geraint Thomas)
Stage 14- 5th (Egan Bernal)

Stage 10 - 1st (Wout van Aert)
Stage 14 - 3rd (Steven Kruijswijk)
Stage 16 - 3rd (Dylan Groenewegen)

Current overall and other results:

Yellow jersey - 2 stages (Mike Teunissen)
4th overall - Steven Kruijswijk

4. Mitchelton-Scott (down one)

Simon Yates slipped off the front of the bigger break with 13 riders which dwindled to he, Warren Barguil, Rigoberto Uran, Alejandro Valverde and Vincenzo Nibali 4kms from the top of Iseran before Bernal made it across.

While Bernal pulled clear in the last kilometre of the summit, Yates joined him on the descent when they were stopped by a race car. The Brit seemed upset with the decision.

If the race continued, at least a second-place was assured, adding to four stage victories this edition, and speaks again to the fibre of the team.

Best Results:

Stage 5 - 3rd (Matteo Trentin)
Stage 9 - 1st (Daryl Impey)
Stage 12 - 1st (Simon Yates)
Stage 15 - 1st (Simon Yates)
Stage 17 - 1st (Matteo Trentin)

Current overall and other results:

Combativity - 1 trip to the podium (Matteo Trentin - Stage 17)

5. Soudal Lotto (down one)

Today's cancellation and the modification of Stage 20 plays into the hands of Caleb Ewan for one last victory at this year's Tour de France on the Champs de Elysees with fresher legs. The Australian looks the fastest of the sprinters at this year's race and should be his to lose.

Best Results:

Stage 1 - 3rd (Caleb Ewan)
Stage 4 - 3rd (Caleb Ewan)
Stage 7 - 2nd (Caleb Ewan)
Stage 8 - 1st (Thomas de Gendt)

Polka dot jersey - 15 trips to the podium (Tim Wellens - KOM reign ended Stage 18)

6. BORA-hansgrohe (same)

Patrick Konrad went up the road for the team. With Thibaut Pinot now out of the race, Emanuel Buchmann moved up to 5th on GC (1:55). Could the German diesel improve his position on the modified 59km Stage 20?

Best Results:

Stage 1 - 2nd (Peter Sagan)
Stage 5 - 1st (Peter Sagan)
Stage 7 - 3rd (Peter Sagan)

8. Groupama-FDJ (down three)

Too heartbroken to write much about this. Not sure Bernal was beatable today but Pinot's left thigh muscular lesion ensures we'll never know.

Many underrated the strength of this team. But look who sits in the top 20, one stage from Paris? David Gaudu jumps to 13th overall, and Sebastien Reichenbach sits 18th. Even 31st overall for Rudy Molard is impressive for a domestique.

Groupama FDJ took Pinot's chances seriously.

Best Results:

Stage 8 - 2nd (Thibaut Pinot)
Stage 14 - 1st (Thibaut Pinot)
Stage 15 - 2nd (Thibaut Pinot)

Current overall and other results:

13th overall - David Gaudu
18th overall -  Sebastien Reichenbach
31st overall - Rudy Molard

9. Bahrain Merida (same)

Damiano Caruso nearly rode into the polka dot jersey with Vincenzo Nibali's help but Romain Bardet (86) still leads the competition over Tim Wellens (74) and Caruso (67).

Stage 6 - 1st (Dylan Teuns)
Stage 7 - 4th (Sonny Colbrelli)
Stage 9 - 3rd (Jan Tratnik)

Without stage wins and/or stronger placings on GC, the remaining teams will be ranked based on any podium prizes, breakaways and/or best stage placings:
