Seven of the eight playoff spots have already been clinched with Connecticut Sun, Las Vegas Aces, Minnesota Lynx, Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings all headed to the postseason.

One spot remains up for grabs with the Washington Mystics, New York Liberty and Los Angles Sparks set to battle it out for that final place in the playoffs.
The final two games of the regular season will be played this weekend and even for the sides who have locked in their ticket to the postseason there is a lot on the line.

The Connecticut Sun, who on Thursday clinched a double-bye in the playoffs and are riding a 13 game win streak, continue to lead the way with a two-game lead ahead of second-placed Las Vegas Aces.

The Aces, where Aussie star Liz Cambage leads the line-up, need to win tough matches against Chicago Sky on and Phoenix Mercury and hope Connecticut suffer a shock loss at home against bottom side Atlanta Dream if they are to pinch the top seed.

Third seed Minnesota will be determined to cling onto that spot with fourth seed Seattle only one game behind and fifth seed Phoenix one and a half games back.
The Mercury, coached by Australian Opals boss Sandy Brondello, suffered their first defeat since the Olympic break to the Sun ending a 10 game win streak.

Brondello’s side will play Seattle on Saturday in a game that could help them move up the ladder to fourth.

Seventh-placed Dallas and sixth-placed Chicago have their position on the ladder set but the Sky will be determined to go into the playoffs with a win in their final match.

The Sky will face off against bottom team Indiana Dream on Monday morning with the match shown live on SBS Viceland.

Finally, the battle for the last playoff spot will go down to the wire with Los Angeles Sparks and Washington Mystics needing wins.

New York Liberty have no more matches but can still make the playoffs if both LA and Washington lose their final games.

Los Angeles takes on seven seed Dallas Wings, while the Mystics play three seed Minnesota.

So buckle up and keep a close eye on the WNBA standings as the countdown to the regular-season finish line nears.

The 2021 WNBA playoffs open September 24 with SBS showing select matches.
