Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege postponed due to coronavirus pandemic

The professional cycling calendar has been thrown into further disarray with the Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege among five more major tour events postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic

Paris-Roubaix as well as the men's and women's Leige-Bastogne-Liege and Fleche Wallonne were called off by event organisers ASO on Tuesday, while the Tour de Yorkshire and Eschborn-Frankfurt World Tour Classic will also not go ahead.

The Tour of Flanders is expected to be the next to confirm its postponement in the coming days meaning all four spring Monuments have been shelved.
“As part of the fight against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID19), Amaury Sport Organisation, with the agreement of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), has decided to not organise Paris-Roubaix (12th April), the Flèche Wallonne and the Flèche Wallonne Women (22nd April) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Liège-Bastogne-Liège Women (26th April) races on their scheduled dates,” ASO said in its statement.

While the spread of Covid-19 has caused most of the sporting world into an indefinite hiatus, cycling bosses are confident the season will be able to restart in the coming months.
If events do get the all clear to go ahead later in 2020 it is sure to be a packed schedule with many other races such as Milan-San Remo and the Giro d'italia also looking for alternative dates.
