There is growing peculation Linda Burney will stand for Federal seat after deal to vacate NSW Parliament according to multiple reports in the media today quoting ALP sources.
Reports in both News Corp and Fairfax papers have reported that Ms Burney, the current Deputy Opposition leader of NSW, will stand aside from her NSW seat of Canterbury and stand for the federal seat of Barton
Barton is now a notionally Labor seat following an electoral boundary redistribution by the Australian Electoral Commission.
The Australian reported that Labor sources had confirmed Ms Burney had the backing of Sussex Street power brokers to contest the seat which has gone from a marginal Liberal seat on a 0.3 per cent to a Labor seat on 5.4 per cent.
Ms Burney was the first Indigenous Australian to serve in the NSW Parliament after her election in 2003.
She later became the Minister for Fair Trading, Minister for Youth and Volunteering.
