This determination adds to the previous decision in 2013 which now extends the Native title claim to incorporate a vast area of 2396 Square Kilometres of land East of Fitzroy Crossing.
The claim was brokered by the tradional owners from the Yarrangi Riwi Yoowarni Gooniyandi and the Gooniyandi Aboriginal Corporation.
Aboriginal affairs Minister Nigel Scullion said that without knowledge the future generation will never know their ancestors history.

“The people of Yarrangi Riwi Yoowarni Gooniyandi have a deep connection to their country, caring for traditional and sacred sites and passing on stories and knowledge of country to their children and grandchildren.”
The decision was handed down and will grant the traditional owners greater influence over any proposed economic developments and decisions regarding the utilisation of the traditional lands of the Yarrangi Riwi Yoowarni Gooniyandi people.
While many believe Native Title doesn’t grant enough control to Traditional owners in financial decisions for the their land Minister Scullion says it's not just about Native Title but about the community’s future.

“Native title determinations aren’t just about recognising and honouring the traditional owners of our land; the benefits go much further," he said.
"The PBC is building an office for Gooniyandi staff and plans to build additions to include space for a community meeting area, a language space and an office for rangers, creating long-term employment opportunities for locals.”
