Anthony Mundine took a crushing hit to his career after losing to American Charles Hatley in Melbourne, Victoria, last week as Aboriginal Olympian Cameron Hammond claimed his 15th consecutive win.
Mundine lost the WBC Silver Super welterweight title belt to Hatley, to win a world title by age 40.
"My execution was all wrong," quoted Mundine as saying. "Charles boxed well and moved well. He had good distance and range and I got caught early reaching for him."
But as Anthony 'Choc' Mundine fell, Cameron Hammond, 26, upheld his undefeated record on the undercard of his mate.
Hammond took out Indonesia’s Sahlan Corral 60-54 x 2, 59-55, destabilising Corral in the first round and fighting with ease throughout the rest of the game.
The pro's career has been on the rise since competing in the welterweight division at the 2012 Olympics in London, UK. He also represented Australia in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.
Hammond, one of three boys, hails from Moree in NSW. He as "Indigenous Australian".
His love for sport began playing rugby as a child. He took up cross country running, athletics, swimming and boxing as a teenager.
