State talks on health a priority: Shorten

A Council of Australian Governments meeting is likely to be called within months to discuss health funding if Labor is elected, Bill Shorten has told reporters.

Bill Shorten says he'd seek to bring state and territory leaders together for a Council of Australian Governments meeting to discuss hospital funding within the first 100 days of a Labor government.

"We want to start working with the states straight away - so probably within our first 100 days," the Labor leader told reporters on Wednesday.

Labor has made health funding a centrepiece of its election campaign.
