More than a hundred young Indigenous rugby league players from across NSW have had the chance to mingle with one of the sport's greats - former Canberra, NSW and Australia representative Laurie Daley.

Daley, an Indigenous player himself, dropped into the players' representative training camp in western Sydney.

NSW Rugby League's camp organiser Steve Hall said it was all about inspiring the youngsters.

"With the boys, we want as many of these Koori kids as possible playing State of Origin down the track," he said.

The camp also included vocational, dietary and other off-field classes.

Wagga Wagga junior Latrell Siegwalt said it was a good experience to share the camp with his mates.

Narrandera youngster Tristan Eldridge agreed.

"It's just good being involved with it, and also the coaching staff being Indigenous - they're just there for the culture and helping us out," he said.

Daley offered something of a motivational speech during his visit.

"If you want to get better at something then you need to consistently practice it," he said.

"If you're about to make a decision and you know it's the incorrect one and you think about the loved ones and people you may hurt with that decision, I guarantee you will not make that decision," he added.
