PM Morrison, Shorten mark Black Saturday

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten have spoken about the devastation of Victoria's Black Saturday 10 years ago in parliament.

Australia's political leaders have marked a decade since Victoria's deadly Black Saturday bushfires with speeches in federal parliament about the devastation.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten attended a memorial event in Melbourne last week, but also spoke about the anniversary on the first parliamentary day of the year in Canberra.

"Fire has always been with us in this timeless land. But these were no ordinary fires," Mr Morrison told parliament on Tuesday.
