NSW has recorded three new locally-acquired coronavirus cases, two linked to the Berala cluster and one to the Avalon cluster.

It comes as residents north of Narrabeen Bridge on Sydney's Northern Beaches, in lockdown since before Christmas, had their stay-at-home orders lifted early on Sunday morning.

The caseload from the 24 hours to 8pm Saturday came from 23,736 test results. Three more cases were also detected in hotel quarantine.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was pleased with the testing rates but the state remains on high alert.

"The main threat has to some extent subsided, but we're still mopping up," she told reporters on Sunday morning.
Ms Berejiklian also thanked residents of the Northern Beaches for being compliant with the stay-at-home orders.

“We deeply appreciate what the Northern Beaches has been through in the last few weeks, especially the northern section,” she said.

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said it was essential the state maintains high testing rates for at least the next 14 days.

“I would like to see them sustained beyond that, but for the next 14 days, it is critical that we mop up any unrecognised chains of transmission,” she said.

Australia has been anxiously waiting to see if the highly contagious UK variant of the virus has spread from Brisbane.

Greater Brisbane is halfway through a three-day lockdown after a cleaner at a quarantine hotel was diagnosed with the more infectious British variant.
