Perth Zoo said there would a "full review" of an enclosure after an "adventurous" orangutan escaped the barricade and mingled among visitors.

Members of the public filmed the incident on their mobile phones as five-year-old "Teliti" yesterday climbed over a fence and into a pathway full of zoo guests, including children.

Reilly Lovegrove, 12, that when Teliti dropped into the crowd, some people approached the animal.

“This little girl with blonde hair…the little girl patted it on the head and after that me and my sister started running, trying to get a zookeeper - to alert them,” he said.

Perth Zoo today posted on its Facebook page that the incident had been handled swiftly by staff.

"[Teliti is] a typical adventurous youngster but her calm nature & trust in her dedicated keepers enabled us to quickly usher her back into the orangutan night quarters," the zoo wrote.

"Teliti is now back with her Mum and keepers say she's just fine."

No one was hurt in the incident and Perth Zoo ended its Facebook post with the hashtag "naughtycorner".
