Australia's Jessica Mauboy did Australia proud with an exuberant performance of her pop song We Got Love at Sunday's Eurovision grand final.
Darwin-born singer had the crowd singing and dancing in Lisbon, which hosted the .
Mauboy polled respectably among the juries, but achieved the lowest public vote of the 26 competing nations, scoring just nine points.
The public vote result prompted fans, including celebrity cook Nigella Lawson, to defend Mauboy's performance.
Lawson tweeted that Australia "didn't deserve" the low finish, saying that it would be "wonderful if we could decamp there for Eurovision next year".
Other fans posted their support for Mauboy.
Mauboy's uplifting tune also got the attention of fellow singer Claire Richards, former member of British pop group Steps.
Although some viewers are still not quite used to Australia being involved in the traditionally European affair.
'Absolute cockhead'
There was also love for another Australian involved in the contest, albeit on the sidelines.
SBS Eurovision host Joel Creasey won praise for his blunt assessment of a stage invader as an "absolute cockhead".
Among those impressed was bestselling Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
The comedian made the comment after the UK's SuRie finished her performance that was interrupted by a man jumping on stage and grabbing her microphone.
