Some savvy Australians are cashing in on the wildly popular Pokemon Go mobile game, offering chauffeur services to gamers in their quest to "catch them all".

Pokemon Go driver Mathew Wrightman, who operates out of Newcastle, told AAP he was receiving several bookings a day to drive people around town in search of new Pokemon.

Mr Wrightman said the game was not restricted to younger generations.

"There are a lot of people ranging in ages from 40 even, just walking their dogs playing Pokemon Go," he said.

"It was nice to see people out again rather than being stuck on social media."

The business opportunities aren't limited to personal Pokemon safaris either.

Mr Wrightman said a Newcastle pub was offering discounted drinks if customers presented certain types of Pokemon to staff.

Large groups of people have been seen gathering at "PokeSpots" around Australia, a pit stop where players can earn game points, find pokemon and gather "PokeBalls".

"There have been a few or so in the city itself, there's been one in the Blacktown area - they're pretty common - its spreading quite fast."
