BHP Billiton says crews are returning to work at its Queensland coal mines after heavy rain from cyclone Debbie shut down operations last week.

The global mining company says all its mines across the Bowen Basin are resuming operations after rain from the huge storm affected access, power and services.

Freight train operator Aurizon's extensive coal haulage network remains shut down in the area and BHP Billiton it will "seek to manage" access to ports and shipments to customers as the situation progresses.

The Hay Point terminal is ready to receive coal, the company said.

BHP Billiton said it has committed $250,000 to the Salvation Army for disaster relief work.
