A $20,000 financial assistance from the NSW Government will go towards the staging of the 23rd Annual Griffith Sikh Games.

Every June long weekend, the Sikh community hold a two-day event at Ted Scobie Oval against the backdrop of Scenic Hill in Griffith.

Minister for Multiculturalism Ray Williams said he was delighted to support the annual event.

“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is continuing to support the 23rd Shaheedi Tournament, which recognises the enormous contributions and sacrifices made by leaders of the Sikh faith,” Mr Williams said.

“This funding will also assist the Sikh community in Griffith to share their culture with the broader NSW community and pass on traditions to younger generations.”
Gurdwara Singh Sabha Society Griffith NSW General Secretary Anup Sing Nagra welcomed the funding announcement.

“This is great news for the Shaheedi Tournament 2019 and local Sikh community. The funding will support us to hire cleaners to maintain the ovals and parking marshals to monitor the car park and surrounding streets,” Mr Nagra said.

Member for Murray Austin Evans said the funding demonstrated the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government’s commitment to supporting multicultural communities.

“This funding will ensure there is a strong future for the Sikh games in Griffith and the event will benefit small businesses and the local tourism economy,” Mr Evans said.

“I am also proud that the Gurdwara Singh Sabha Society of Griffith and the local Sikh community will provide donations made on the day to Griffith Base Hospital to support its local programs and services.”
