Sydney doctor, Shyam Acharya who is accused of falsely holding himself out as a medical practitioner for eleven years has been tracked in India, reports.
Shyam Acharya is alleged to have stolen the identity of an Indian doctor currently working in the UK.
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency told the New South Wales Health Department in November last year that Acharya was under investigation.
According to AHPRA, Acharya stole the identity of an Indian doctor, Sarang Chitale, who is a rheumatologist with the National Health Service of the United Kingdom.
He got Australian citizenship and gained registration with the Medical Board of New South Wales in 2003 using the stolen identity.
Acharya then worked as a junior doctor at four different public hospitals before taking up a job at a pharma company.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the state government will seize his $1.5 million home in North Ryde to recoup the salary paid to him.
According to Seven Network, a special strike force has been formed to have him extradited back to Australia to face the court.
He faces $30,000 fine on his return.
