As the loved ones of Cecilia Haddad continue to try and come to terms with their grief, her best friend Carol Câmara spoke about the huge hole Ms Haddad's death has left.

Tomorrow morning it will be a week since Carol Câmara spoke to her best friend for the last time. The next day, Cecilia Haddad's fully-clothed body was found floating in Lane Cove River in Sydney. New South Wales Police subsequently launched a murder investigation.

As Ms Haddard's closest friend, Ms Câmara was asked by her ex-husband in Perth and by friends to be their spokesperson and assist the Australian authorities into their probe to uncover what happened to her. Ms Câmara is unable to reveal any details surrounding the suspicious circumstances of her friend's death, but told SBS Portuguese Ms Haddad's ex-husband Felipe Torres has been deeply affected.

Ms Câmara first met Ms Haddad 11 years ago. The two women had met on their flight to Australia. After they landed in Australia in March 19, 2007, they had stayed in close contact. This continued following Ms Haddad's relocation to Sydney for work in 2016 while Ms Câmara remained in Western Australia.
Fellow Australian-Brazilian Cristina Talacko also shared her memories of Ms Haddad. As the vice-president of the Australia-Brazil Chamber of Commerce, Ms Talacko said Ms Haddad's reputation had preceded her to such an extent she had invited her to be the ABCC representative in Western Australia. Cecilia didn't assume the ABCC post because at the time she was planning to move from Perth to Sydney.
Ms Haddad had been separated from her Brazilian husband Felipe Torres since last year. She had no children.

Ms Haddad's family is from Rio de Janeiro, where her father still lives. Her mother lives in Florianópolis.

In Rio de Janeiro, before migrating to Australia 11 years ago, she worked at mining company Vale and in WA she worked for BHP for a few years.
