First their daughter was infected, now these Australian parents have coronavirus too

Three of the four members of an Indian-Australian family have tested positive for coronavirus, after being aboard the Diamond Princess Cruise ship still docked in Japan.

It was meant to be a day of celebration but Bianca Dsilva lay in her bed, crying and wanting nothing more than to sleep on her 21^st birthday this February 15.

She tested positive for coronavirus while on a cruise aboard the infamous Diamond Princess and was taken to the hospital in Japan on February 11, where she has been recuperating ever since.

While her fever has subsided, Bianca had to bear another shock when her parents, Dellone and Suzanne, both tested positive for coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, on February 14.

“On Friday night, the doctor came and said both Dellone and I had tested positive for Coronavirus. The doctor is also very concerned about my husband’s lungs which showed patches of pneumonia in the scan,” Suzanne told SBS Hindi from Japan.

“The doctor has suggested Dellone starts taking this HIV drug which has worked on some people in China.

“He is throwing up and has a very bad cough but he is showing signs of improvement today. They are going to take us both for another lung scan tomorrow to check if pneumonia has cleared."

The family of four is quarantined in a Japanese hospital two hours from the city of Yokohama. The infected members of the family are being kept separate from their son, who is in the room next door.

“Bianca and I haven’t had a temperature for a few days now but I am still very out of breath. The only good thing is, my son Brenton has not caught the virus. We can’t see him and be with him but at least he is close,” she said.

The Melbourne-based family is eager to return home.

“We are just counting down the days to get completely well and come home.

“The doctor said we need to have two consistent negative test results before he can discharge us. He hopes to run these tests around February 23, 24,” she said.
