“I want to be a doctor and thank to Atet Kuir Garang for helping me”

Ajuuch Ayom Ajuuch is a seven-year-old South Sudanese boy who recorded video while crying when floods destroyed his exercise books. A young Australian, Atet Garang Kuir, with her mother, stepped up and gave the most needed support to Ajuuch. Ajuuch and his father interviewed on SBS Dinka.

Ajuuch is in the lower classes of the primary school now in Bor, but his family was recently affected by floods in Langbaar, the suburb of Bor town. Ajuuch’s exercise books were destroyed by flood, and that prompted him to cry on video.

“All my books are destroyed. Where will I get them again now? The flood has destroyed my books.”

 The social media’s video was seen by the then 12 years old Atet Kuir Garang, who lives in Melbourne with her mother. According to the mother, Anyieth, Atet Kuir was devastated by the situation. So Atet instead instructed her mother Anyieth Arou Maan to donate the money for her birthday to Ajuuch. As a result, 500 Australian dollars was wired to South Sudan, and Ajuuch celebrating the support.

 “I would like to thank Atet for helping me, and I will help the children of those who helped me in future. I wanted to be a doctor, and I know I will do something good here in Bor.”
