This year marks the 30th anniversary of 8888 uprising in Myanmar/ Burma.


Students, monks, civil servants, doctors, teachers and people from all works of life took part on 8 Auguest 1988 to protest against then the dictator government.  

The government responded with violence and many were killed, arrested and a lot had to fled to neighboring countries. 

From that uprising there were some changes and new generation was created.  

We asked organizers from Sydney's and Melbourne's events on why it is important to mark the anniversary of 8888 uprising in Australia.
