Bangladeshi Shajuty wins 1st runner up in 'Miss South Asia Australia'

'Miss South Asia Australia' was held on the 14th of September in Melbourne. Contestants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Srilanka participated.

This year Namitha Susan Kurian won the Miss South Asia Australia 2018, she was representing India.

Organizers said, "This is a platform for aspiring young ambassadors in the South Asian Australian community to make a difference."

However, there were prizes for Mr & Miss categories of each South Asian country.

Bangladeshi expatriate Tanvir Hussain Himel and Shajuty Islam were the winners of the Mr Bangladesh and Miss Bangladesh respectively. Shajuty Islam also won the title of 1^st runner-up 2018 in Miss South Asia Australia.

Shadow minister for multicultural affairs Inga Peulich, former MP Liz Beattie, former mayor and labor candidate Jennifer Yang, managing director of the event Dilkie Perera, ECCV vice chair Marion Lau and other leaders from South Asian communities were present on this event.

Shajuty and Himel both have completed their masters from Monash University, Australia.
