Is that noodle in my dessert?

We all know that noodles are a savoury star, but what about when the charismatic noodle goes rogue... dessert-style? Here are a few noodle-inspired sweets that'll turn your slurping into spooning.

When you think of sah-weet noodles, what comes to mind?

We scoped out social media (of course!) and there was no shortage of sweet treats embracing the nimble noodle. Who says they're only destined for savoury dishes? We saw trusty  and  to starts and then seviyan (a Pakistani fried vermicelli bowl with nuts and spices), lod chong (Thai pandan noodles in coconut milk) and raspberry ramen rocky road (say what?!)... ... all starring the noodle!
The collections we stumbled upon were creamy and colourful, and we were inspired to show off a few of our sweet noodle numbers that pop.

Will the real noodle please stand up?

1. Noodle kugel with cherry sauce

Served up with a lush cherry sauce and dusted with icing sugar, this sweet bake calls on thick egg noodles, cottage cheese, vanilla and cinnamon.

2. Shir khurma

Make pudding and chill with this creamy glass that is both a popular dessert and breakfast option in Pakistan.

3. Falooda with basil

Fun to say and fun to eat, this dessert is also made in Iran and India, however, this recipe is inspired by the version made in Pakistan. Let's just say if you are a basil buff then this dessert needs to be on your menu.

4. Orange blossom & pomegranate faloodeh

Featuring orange-blossom water, rice vermicelli and pomegranate seeds, the contrasting textures and flavours of this recipe make it a unique frozen treat.

5. Cendol

Are you ready for this jelly... noodle that is? This icy street snack combines some serious Southeast Asian flavour profiles with ingredients of coconut, pandan and palm sugar- refreshing and delicious!

6. Cherry sorbet and frozen rosewater rice noodles

Watch our very own  showcase a traditional Middle Eastern dessert with a modern twist. This dessert is next level as it freezes your standard rice noodles.

7. Hungarian noodle cake (vargabeles)

This Hungarian dessert stacks up to the challenge. This recipe is easy to bake, especially as the pastry and egg noodles are store-bought. Inspiration below, and our recipe .

8. Nut and honey pastry nests (kataifi)

Resembling vermicelli, kataifi pastry looks like a bird's nest. This sweet and sticky pastry is coated in honey, nuts and syrup-galore!

9. Fruit kugel

This noodle dessert is an 'im-pasta' as it asks for pappardelle to be tossed through a creamy sauce and then baked to perfection. (Ooh yeah!)

10. Sweet pistachio pastries (tel kadayifi)

These pastries are the nutty goods - and made with only 5 ingredients.  Serve with ice-cream or yoghurt or on their own as an afternoon snack.

11. Saffron zoolbia

These simple yet addictive deep-fried Persian artworks are made from labna! Serve these up with any kind of sugar syrup - saffron, rosewater, orange blossom or blend your own if you wish.

12. Shredded pastry with cheese and sugar syrup (künefe)

Get it while it's hot, literally! Rich, delicious and crispy, getting shredded with dessert never tasted so good and this divine künefe oozes cheesy mozzarella.
